Firewire specialist Miglia Technology produces high quality Firewire-based products. The Harmony Audio is their first audio capture hardware. It has British components built into it - Oxford Semiconductors' 970 Firewire controller chip.

The sleek-looking Harmony Audio has 2 line inputs and 8 line level outputs (mini jack outputs). For a songwriter like me, the number of inputs are more than enough as I can easily plug in both my guitar and microphone. Being FireWire bus powered means faster transfer rate without the need for an external power supply.

The Harmony Audio also has a button called 'SoftClip', a technology which allows users to prevent unwanted digital clippings that might occur during recording. Thanks to the 8 line outputs available users can create an SRS 7.1 system song!

Using the Harmony Audio is a no-brainer - a musician does not require any technical knowledge or special skills in order to understand or use it. No drivers are needed, no installations of any software required, just plug in and you’re good to go!

Though the Harmony Audio is a recommended product for home musicians, I was quite disappointed with the fact that it does not have an XLR input for condenser microphones. But apart from that, the Harmony Audio works perfectly well with GarageBand. As long as I can get my tunes into the software without complications, I'm happy.
