One of the things which makes Apple products so special is the packaging. So as soon as I saw the box for the Moshi Codex 13 MacBook case, I knew this was going to be something special.

Let's talk about the box first. It's made of hard board and has a cool shiny brushed metal look with the Moshi name embossed on the front. It has an inner black layer which is visible on the back where the description of the product is written. This black colour is also stylishly displayed when the cut-out handles are popped out, making the box a carrying case.

Inside the box the Codex 13 is wrapped in a white bag, just like a designer hand bag. Stylish indeed. There's also the free ShieldPad which is a felt-like material made of optical-grade microfibre which can be used as a screen protector, a mousepad or a cleaning cloth.

The Codex 13 itself is a nice sturdy but soft case made of metallic silver material, again mimicking the brushed metal look (It also comes in metallic black). There are two chunky round zipper pullers.

When you unzip the case there's a foam padding containing a leaflet, a case for the Apple Remote and a handle. Removing the foam shows the base of the case with round rubber pads at each corner. The bottom right pad has "13 series" embossed on it. Again...oozing with style.

The case is insulated with Viscotex, which according to Moshi is a high compression cushion which can effectively mitigate shock from impact. The inside is lined with Terahedron which protects your MacBook from scratches.

Now let's actually use it. The MacBook fits perfectly inside. There's even a couple of elastic bands to strap the lid in place. This means when you open the case your MacBook lid opens as well. Cool. Of course this works exclusively with the MacBook because of the magnetic latch. And the Codex 13 is designed in such a way that your MacBook's side ports and DVD/CD slot are all accessible.

The key-chain case for the Apple Remote is a neat little case. Not only does the Apple Remote fit snugly inside, you can actually use it while it's in the case! The case has the control buttons embossed on it.

With your MacBook nicely zipped up inside, you can attach the remote case to the zippers. You can also attach the handle to the top and voila, you have a nice little carrying case for your Mac.

The Codex 13 is an extremely well constructed case. It's well padded and offers excellent protection for your MacBook. And, oh, did I mention that it's very stylish? If you only need to carry your MacBook and your Apple Remote around, I cannot recommend the Codex 13 enough. It is a truly cool product.
