Official Opening of machines

The newest Apple Reseller, machines, held its official opening at Mid Valley Megamall on Oct 14th. With a floor space of 2,614 square feet, machines is the largest Apple outlet in Malaysia.

The store is fully stocked with all the latest Macs and iPods. It also contains a vast array of accessories - everything from laptop bags to iPod add-ons, from cool Lacie external disks to wireless routers. It was really nice to see the availability of some brands which are hard to find elsewhere. However, I noticed there seemed to be a lack of software. Apart from a large number of Parallels boxes, they only had a basic Apple collection and a handful of games. Hopefully more stuff will be in stock soon.

The store also has a small but cozy training/demo room - a sofa, some seats, a Mac mini connected to powerful Bose speakers, a projector and a screen. If only it was a little larger....it would have been perfect for MacFests!

The big promotion of the day was five iPod nanos being sold at 50% discount. However, to qualify for this offer you had to be the first five customers to arrive at 10am and you had to stay in the store until 5pm. Apparently the first guy in the queue arrived at 6:30am, and he was a PC user! And the second person, Nanis, came all the way from Penang! But as the day wore on, some of these early birds could no longer hang about and exchanged their places with other people (for a little profit perhaps?;-))

One of the directors of machines, Andrew Cheng, had been extremely kind to offer a number of RM20 discount vouchers exclusively to myMUG. Throughout the morning some myMUGgers came in the store to collect their vouchers as well as their myMUG caps which they had ordered. I totally enjoyed meeting and chatting with them: Soon, Wayne, Nanis, Firdaus, David, William, Jeyadev, Moriazi, Azizi and Naqib.

I was there until about 2pm and the place was really buzzing. It was great to see an Apple outlet full of people. We wish Andrew and Dylan, two genuinely nice guys, all the very best of success with their store.
