| Wong
started off the evening by talking about his blog, ahtak.blogspot.com,
where he posts his photos and thoughts. Then he took us through
his collection of cool photographs, describing how he shot some
of them. Finally he showed how he uploads his photos to his blog.
Next, I played a few Apple-related
video clips which included the iPod nano and Motorolla Rokr phone
ads. I also played a 10-minute snippet from the "Triumph of
the Nerds" documentary showing the beginnings of Apple Computer.
Shah covered three things:
- HandBrake
- a freeware which rips DVDs and saves the movies and featurettes
as Quicktime movies.
- Romeo
- an application which allows you to remotely control your Mac
via your handphone. Shah showed how he changed songs in iTunes,
started the visualiser, launched DVD Player, controlled the volume...all
without touching his Mac!
- Creating your own ringtone using GarageBand.
Chris was 'requested' to lend his voice in creating a ringtone
which Shah put together in just a few minutes.
The prizes for the lucky
draws at the end consisted of a ShuffleArt skin, an iPod t-shirt
and a couple of books, iPhoto 5: The Missing Manual and iLife 05.
After Ikano a few of us
hung out at D'Kayu (in front of Tesco) for teh tarik and
supper.
Thanks to all who came and
special thanks to Wong and Shah for their talks. A big Thank You
also to our prize sponsors: Chris, Peachpit and O'Reilly, and to
the Apple Experience Centre (Mac Studio) for the venue. |
