| Through
arrangements with Epson, EpiCentre provided our first speaker for
the night. Ho from Epson
(who confessed that he was not a Mac user!) started by talking about
what to consider when buying a new printer. He described how a 6-ink
printer provided more details and produced prints which were not
over-saturated. He handed round examples of 4-ink and 6- ink photos
and it was clear the 6-ink ones looked more realistic.
Ho mentioned that anyone
is free to try out the Epson printer at EpiCentre. So next time
you're planning to go to the Pavilion bring along your laptop and
print our your photos!
Eunice, a relatively new
Mac user, was up next. She demonstrated the Magic Sponge, a white
sponge used for cleaning your Mac. She cut off a small bit of the
sponge and dampened it with water. Then she gently wiped away the
dirt from Jeyadev and William's white MacBooks. It really worked!
Eunice also showed that
the magic sponge could clean the aluminum MacBook Pro as well by
demonstrating on Vincent and Jimin's Macs. All in all a simple but
very useful little product. And at the incredibly low price of RM4.90,
available from Cosway!
The main speaker for the
night was Vincent
Thian, the Chief Photographer with Associated Press (AP). He
showcased a large collection of his amazing photos. He talked at
length about his travels - amongst the places mentioned were Thailand,
Japan, Australia, China and Indonesia. In fact he and Jimin were
the first photographers to arrive in Indonesia right after the tsunami
happened.
Apart from covering politics
and disasters, Vincent also shoots sports and he said that the F1
is the most boring event to cover because the scenes are always
the same. When on a job overseas he uses a satellite phone to transmit
his photos to AP but it's usually the case where there's no connection
in town. So he has to travel out to an open area for connection.
Depending on the political situation it's not always safe and he
always has to be careful.
Just before the lucky draws
I showed a laptop cooler pad from moshi called Zefyr.
I demonstrated it on Jimin's MacBook Pro.
The lucky draws consisted
of four books and three Apple pen/pencil sets. Ian Cheong who couldn't
attend this month had passed me some old brochures for the Power
Mac G4 and the Cube for me to distribute - cool, historical documents
for the Apple collector.
With the 'Fest over a few
of us went to Expressamente for coffee. Vincent and Jimin entertained
us with more of their photography stories. We were so enthralled
that we were there until way past midnight!
Thanks to EpiCentre for
the venue and drinks.
