| Because
of the growing number of attendees, it was finally time to find
a new venue for our gathering. Through Shah's suggestion we decided
on Hoxe's Bookstore & Cafe at Damansara Perdana. In order to
reserve the place for our private function we had to pay RM10 per
person. Coffee, tea and light snacks were provided.
Just before we started,
there was a technical problem with the projector....no DVI cable
to connect to the laptops! Thank goodness Jen came to the rescue
by lending us his projector.
Redza started off the night
with a demo of iStopMotion,
demonstrating how easy and fun it is to make your own stop motion
animation. He and Shah created a little clip with a couple of Transformers.
Zalee who had just come
back from attending the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB)
convention in Las Vegas updated us with what happened at the event.
He showed the photos he took and highlighted the new features of
Final Cut Studio 2.
Next up Jinny briefly talked
about her Pantone Huey calibrator and offered to calibrate our Macs!
Then I made a quick announcement
that Jen Siow, Malaysia's digital photography pioneer, had just
been officially recognised as an Apple Certified Pro for Aperture
as well as a Certified Apple Trainer for Aperture. There are only
six such trainers in Asia! Jen came up to say a few words about
how he achieved his certification in Singapore.
As Wei was setting up for
his presentation, David took a few minutes to talk about a development
project he is managing codenamed the 'Get
Back to Work' project. This project is the development of a
Cocoa application which is primarily a ‘distraction buster’
or ‘attention manager’ software that helps users be
more productive at work.
Wei had brought with him
his home-made Mac, a G4 fitted into an ATX PC case. He talked about
how cheap and easy it was to build your own Mac and showcased the
inner workings of his unique machine.
Finally, Azizi did a presentation
on his new company and the system they're currently developing,
an application for the legal system called Solu-Notes. He demonstrated
how the system would revolutionise the communications process in
the courts. It looked very promising and I can't wait to see it
launched in June.
For the lucky draws we gave
away 3 books as well as a Miglia Harmony Express dongle.
As the doors to Hoxe's closed
at 11pm some of us adjourned to a nearby mamak stall for
supper. Jinny kindly calibrated our Macs as we ate our roti
canai.
