| This
month's 'Fest started off with first-time presenter Wei who gave
us a pretty detailed overview of VNC - remotely controlling our
Mac via the Internet or network. He talked about the hardware and
software required and ended up with a demo, accessing his Mac which
was sitting at home.
Next I talked briefly about
the new features of iMovie 6 and showed a home movie of my family
trip to Perth which utilised some of these features.
Shah was the last speaker
and he went through ten demos or tips:
- Downloading flash animations to your
hard disk
- Google
Earth
- Terragen
(terrain generator)
- OS
X Planet (live desktop)
- Midnight
Mars Browser
- Jets
'n' Guns (awesome shooting game)
- Haunting another Mac over your network
(great for scaring kids)
- Connecting to the Net with a 3G handphone
using Bluetooth
- Transferring stuff from a PC to a Mac
- Backing up your files
For the lucky draws Valerie
picked the winners. Apart from a couple of O'Reilly books there
was a cool iPod nano skin kindly sponsored by Boomwave Products.
As luck would have it, this was won by Wei! Talk about beginner's
luck. Now all he needs to do is get himself a nano! :D
Thanks to the prize sponsors
and to MacAsia for providing the venue. And thanks again to Choy
Leng for the drinks. |
