| By
special request from Capt Zul Ahmad of Malaysia Airlines (MAS),
a new Mac user, a special MacFest was organised for some MAS pilots.
This was a 'basics' event, covering introductions to Mac OS X 10.4
and iLife 05.
Capt Zul kicked off the
'Fest by welcoming his fellow pilots and giving a brief introduction
to the evening.
Shah did the first presentation,
which was an overview of Tiger. He showed some of its many new features
such as Dashboard and Spotlight. He then demonstrated Automator,
showing how easy it was to change a whole bunch of file names with
a single click.
Shah also talked about Quicktime
7 and showed how crisp the quality of HD video is.
Then I presented iLife 05,
giving very brief overviews of what each of the 5 applications can
do. I touched on the podcasting phenomenon in iTunes, showed the
image editing tools in iPhoto and created a snippet of a song in
GarageBand. Then I demonstrated how to put together a short home
movie in iMovie and how all these applications finally culminate
in iDVD.
As usual, we held a little
lucky draw at the end, giving away a couple of books. As luck would
have it, Capt Zul himself won the iTunes/iPod Missing Manual.
After the event some of
us hung out at Starbucks.
