| myMUG's
very first Developer Special Interest Group (DevSIG) was launched
at Skilz (thanks to Valerie and MacAsia for the wonderful facility)
on 22nd July. The eight members that attended braved a rare storm
that uprooted trees and rooftops in the neighborhood - this is one
determined group!
Attendees kicked off the
get-together with a brief introduction of their diverse background,
and in the process discovered some talents in Java, php and HTML.
Looks like we won't be running short on future speakers or opportunities
to pick up these skills.
With the introduction out
of the way, these founding members discussed and prioritized our
next few meetings. Everyone contributed to the brainstorming. The
maturity of the group is evident as two diverse needs (those of
the more experienced and those getting their "programming toes"
wet for the first time) worked out a solution - DevSIG will meet
twice-a-month!
The first meeting of every
month will feature a tutorial to introduce attendees to the programming
topic while the second meeting will offer a mix of guest speakers
(paid in peanuts) and "Bring your bugs and we'll help squash
them" sessions.
Starting next month, Megat
and Chris will introduce DevSIG attendees to Cocoa programming.
No programming experience is assumed, there are no stupid questions,
and there is no certificate (hey, it's free, ok?). Just get plenty
of sleep beforehand. How to thank us? Offerings of food and drinks
will be appreciated - we all know programmers are poor and malnourished.
If you missed this get-together,
there's no need to fret, keep watching the myMUG "Developing"
forum. In no time, you'll be a propeller-head like us. Like the
Borg said in Star Trek, "Resistance is futile!"
